The more you move around the house and with your baby, the more you walk with her outside, the more chances are you will be losing weight after a baby faster. This actually works like exercising – remember, your body does not care what you are doing, so as long as you are moving, you are burning calories!

The 500 calories will be sufficient for your body to produce enough milk for your baby and the pounds will literally melt away. The best and safest way for you to determine how many calories you need is to ask your doctor.

Tip #2 – Exercise

Another important element to losing weight after the baby is to exercise. It’s great to lose the pounds, but you also need to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle to really look and feel great. Exercise will help you tone up so you have a nice firm and fit look. Exercise will keep you from having the soft, squishy, “I’ve had a baby look.” If you cut back your calories to lose weight without adding in exercise, you will lose muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be. The higher your metabolism is, the more calories your body burns up even when you are resting. Exercise will give you extra energy that you are going to need to care for your baby. Soon your baby will become very active and you will want to be able to do fun things without be tired and worn out all the time. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that now that you have a baby, you don’t have time to exercise. You now have the best reason in the world to exercise – your baby! Put the baby in a stroller and take long walks. If you start walking when your baby is young, they learn to enjoy the stroller and are happy to sit in the stroller no matter how far you walk. This is a win-win situation. The baby is entertained and you are losing weight and toning up at the same time.

Tip #3

Find a friend to lose weight with. Having someone who is in the same situation as you can be a real boost and will help you through discouraging times. Contact other new moms that you may have met in your childbirth classes or join a local weight loss group. By doing this, you won’t feel like your having to go it alone. Remember, losing weight after the baby is not impossible. Follow these simple tips and you will be back into your pre-pregnancy shape in no time.

Many women are quick to jump on the scale after they have given birth. They want to know how much weight they lost from the birth and how much excess they are still carrying. This often leads to shock and disappointment, when they discover they have a little more than they thought they would.

To lose the post baby weight, our diet needs to be looked at properly. It is important that we are getting good calories that are low fat. This can be quite a daunting thing to take on, if you have never really bothered to look at your diet before. Of course this maybe daunting as well especially if you are very busy and with a new baby this is of course very likely! So instead of running around trying to learn everything there is about diet and nutrition, a diet program would be more useful. This is what helped me have success with post baby weight loss. I breastfed and still do but couldn’t lose those last few pounds until I followed a diet plan. The plan I found was very easy and simple to follow. No complicated recipes or time consuming ones – just a plan I could follow without much thought. So if you feel you need a diet program, find a good one!

As soon as you feel ready, you should incorporate some exercise into your life. Start with walks with the baby and build up to something more vigorous. Make sure it is fun and something you can stick to. If you have no idea what exercise/activities you would be interested in or enjoy, try many different ones. Try different videos, dance around the house (I do this and my son laughs at me!), dance while you clean or do some yoga to help with a busy lifestyle.

Don’t beat yourself up if you slip up with your diet or you go a day without exercise. Living healthfully is a life long process. You should enjoy losing your weight and it should be a part of a much bigger picture when it comes to your health.
